Easter

May I take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy and inspiring Easter. Last night I watched the Johnathan Miller arrangement of Bach's St Matthew Passion, which was very poignant and moving. Please share what Easter means to you and how you hope to be spending it this year.

I understand those misgivings and I guess they apply even more to Christmas where we have no real idea when Jesus was born. According to the Bible, His crucifixion occurred on the Friday before the Passover, which is on 15 Nisan. However, Christians later decided to separate themselves from lunar Jewish calculations, and since then different practices for calculating Easter have also arisen.

All of these differences and arguments leave me completely cold. I celebrate Easter as a witness to non-believers and to focus myself more deeply than ever on the events of Passion Week. I don't have any Christians to meet with or talk to and focusing my mind in this way helps me renew my faith and recharge my spiritual batteries.

We should, of course, remember Jesus's sacrifice every time when eat bread or drink wine, i.e. pretty much every day. And we certainly shouldn't judge anyone for not celebrating Easter (Colossians 2:16). All I can say is that we should do everything for edification (1 Corinthians 14:26), and I find celebrating Easter edifying.
